Introduction & Meet the Authors
In the foreword and introduction part of the book the author (Mike Westerdal) introduces himself and tells the story of just how important your hip flexors are. He also tells a few stories about how his coauthor and mentor – Kinesiologist and Injury Specialist Rick Kaselj – has helped a ton of people get rid of various injuries and pains.
According to Mike, Rick is one of the few injury specialists he met who actually helps athletes get back to training after an injury instead of urging them to avoid workouts altogether. Also, Mike says that Rick has
- helped him get rid of his never easing shoulder pain,
- helped Mike’s wife get rid of pain and discomfort in her hips after their son Lincoln was born,
- helped Critical Bench’s own Head Strength Coach Chris Wilson “cure” his tight hip flexor problem that was caused by sitting all day.
The Benefits of Opening Your Hip Flexors
In the next part of the book (which is basically two thirds of the whole ebook), Mike explains in easy to understand language the roles of (healthy) hip flexors in the human body, and all the things that can go wrong if your neglect this muscle group (which is also known as the psoas).
Even though this section is a little long… this section isn’t totally pointless, because it helps you better understand what you can expect from the course and you also learn a bit of anatomy along the way.
The Importance of Hip Flexors
According to the author, some muscles play a larger role in the human body than others and he argues that your hip flexors are among the most important ones.
Here are a few of the reasons why your hip flexors are so important:
- Healthy hip flexors help you connect to your emotional well being.
- Our hips impact everything that the rest of your body tries to do. Just try to sit, stand, twist, reach, bend, walk etc… with a broken hip. All these things are either very painful or impossible to do with injured hips.
- The psoas helps with stabilizing the spine, flexing and rotating the hip and optimizing your posture. It is quite an important job, because you need to fix all the damage too much sitting is causing you.
- Since the psoas is the only muscle that connects the upper body to the lower body, this muscle makes everything that your lower body does (i.e.: walking with your legs) affect your upper body and vice versa without you even realizing it.
How Sitting is Killing You (Good to Know)
In this chapter, you can learn about all the negative things that excessive sitting causes to your body and how you can undo this damage by “unlocking” your hip flexors.
He says that too much sitting causes
- your energy levels to drop
- poor posture and anterior pelvic tilt which gives your body a “fat belly bulge” look
- your body to stare fat as a survival response due to stress
- your sex life to suffer.
- You can learn a whole lot more about why and how these things happen once you read the book. I don’t want to give away all the good stuff, it would be unfair towards the authors, I’m just merely trying to summarize what you’ll find in the product.
After you learn all of the above, Mike will finally start talking about what he calls “The Sequential Flow Method”. Here he explains why static (or even dynamic) stretching alone won’t be enough to solve the problem and why it’s not only the exercises that you do that matter, but also the order of those exercises and the importance of the order…
The Routine
Now you get the “substance”.
The authors list the 10 exercises, all in the right order, that you need to repeat regularly in order to truly undo the damage to your hip flexors. All the exercises are clearly explained with detailed instructions and they are also demonstrated with photos.
Personally, I feel the exercises are not too challenging, and only take 10-15 minutes to complete which makes it easy to squeeze into a busy day.
The End
The final chapters in the book are about the authors and will give you information about other products available from them:
- Unlock Your Tight Hamstrings (“The Key To A Healthy Back And Perfect Posture”)
- The 7-Day Anti-Inflammatory Diet (“Automatically Heal Your Body with The Right Foods”)

Conclusion
Overall, I feel this product is simple, effective and well thought out. I’ve suffered from lower back pain occasionally, so I figured there’s nothing to lose by giving the “Sequential Flow Method” a try and repeating the routine every day, if I remember to do it that is… It only takes about 10 minutes per day and the benefits have been worth every minute.
